Etiquette & Visitor Guidance

Gurdwara Baba Sang Ji is fully accessible to all visitors, including those with disabilities.

The Gurdwara is a place of worship, reflection, and seva (selfless service). Everyone is welcome, regardless of faith or background. To maintain respect for the sanctity of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji (the Sikh scripture) and the Sangat (congregation), we kindly ask visitors to follow these simple guidelines:

Gurdwara Etiquette

Upon Entering

    • Cover your head. Scarves and rumaals are available at the entrance.
    • Remove your shoes and place them on the racks provided.
    • Wash your hands before entering the Darbar Sahib (prayer hall).
    • Dress modestly. Please avoid revealing clothing.

Inside the Gurdwara

    • Bow respectfully when entering the Darbar Sahib. Many people bow their head and may offer a small donation.
    • Sit on the floor. Traditionally, men and women sit on separate sides, though families may sit together.
    • Maintain silence and respect. Keep mobile phones on silent and avoid unnecessary talking.
    • Do not chew gum, eat, or drink in the prayer hall.

Langar (Community Kitchen)

    • Everyone is welcome to share a free vegetarian meal, served daily from 6am–8pm.
    • Sit together on the floor with others as a sign of equality and humility.
    • Accept food with both hands and avoid wasting Langar.

General Respect

    • No smoking, alcohol, or drugs are allowed anywhere on the premises.
    • Anyone under the influence of alcohol or substances will not be permitted to enter.
    • Photography or filming should only be done with prior permission.
    • Children are welcome but should be supervised at all times.

Visitor Guidance

Parking

There is free on road parking outside the Gurdwara and along the side roads. Please park considerately if you park in residential areas.

There is also a pay and display Sandwell Council car park directly opposite the Gurdwara where you can park. This car park is also free after 6pm and on Sundays all day.

Public Transport

Gurdwara Baba Sang ji is located on St Paul’s Road / High Street Smethwick and is easily accessible by both bus and train. The nearest train stations are either: Smethwick Rolf Street or Galton Bridge.

The Gurdwara is not only a house of prayer but also a place where people can come for food, guidance, and support. Through Manjke, the Gurdwara helps meet community needs and ensures that nobody is ever turned away.

When visiting the Gurdwara, you will also experience the three key principles taught by the Sikh Gurus. These principles are lived every day at the Gurdwara through prayer, Langar, seva, and community support.
